October Newsletter 2023

Good morning everyone,

AUTUMN SOCIALS

The first social is on Thursday 12th October 2pm in the Sports Association Clubhouse. As in the past it is open to anyone -members and non members alike. Entry is £2 which buys you a raffle ticket as well as participation in the Quiz and Bingo. There will be a Faith Tea. That and the raffle depend on course on the generosity of all of us who come. Margaret will not be able to look after the making and serving of the tea after this social so I should like to thank her for all her efforts over the past years. It would be nice if two or three of us would volunteer to take her place. Please let me know if you can help in this way.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This meeting has been postponed and will be scheduled to take place in late February early March next year. We intend to combine it with our annual Signing On Day. Once the date is fixed you will be informed and receive Subscription renewal forms at the same time. Obviously we are looking to appoint various club officials, committee members and captains for the four leagues in which we play. If you are interested in helping in one (or more) of these positions please let Denise or myself know. The more the merrier as many hands make light work. Experience is not essential, willingness is!

SEPTEMBER BOWLS

Our Friday League side lost a closely fought Plate KO Final against first division Langtoft. It is possible that next season the League may revert to two divisions as it is rumoured that up to four new teams may be applying to join. We shall have to wait and see.

Our Vets finished second, the Aussie Pairs third and the Open League side fourth in their respective leagues.

The final Sunday afternoon social event the Pairs by Lot was somewhat of a disappointment in that only four teams took part. However we must congratulate Peter Rawson, June Beal and Sue Howard (a “Pair”) who won. Congratulations to Peter Lees who won the Spider after 35 years of trying to do so with no luck at all!

Although the green is now closed to bowling there is still much to be done on it to put it to bed as it were. Mick will be working on scarifying, cutting, fertilising and so on into November. Work not seen by us but essential. Our thanks to Mick for all his efforts.

See you at the Social.

Regards

Peter
