Happy New Year to you all,
January is named after the two headed god Janus who looked backwards and forwards.
If we look back it is to what was, so I am told, the hottest year for yonks. All I can remember is it being a wet, wet, world (www. for short). Looking forward as I peer into my crystal ball I see a lovely summer in which we surpass ourselves winning goodness knows how many trophies and eclipsing the glory years we had twenty years or so ago. But, more importantly, I see our club enveloping everyone with friendship, good humour and camaraderie.
Coming up is the first of four socials on Thursday January 11th.
2pm start as always. £2 for a quiz, faith tea, raffle ticket and bingo.
The quality of the tea and the raffle depend as usual on our generosity.
I t will be nice to see you all again along with your friends.
We do need two or three volunteers to help sort out the faith tea food, serve the tea/coffee and wash/tidy up. PLEASE let me know if you are willing to help and thank you so much in advance.
Here are some New Year Resolutions for you
Welcome new members Take part in social bowling events
Encourage others to do so as well.
Volunteer when and where ever you can.
Smile when you bowl a brilliant wood.
Smile when your wood is a disaster
Smile when others bowl well.
Just smile – It takes13 muscles to smile and 50 to frown!
As the song says “When you’re smiling the whole world smiles with you”
We do not have a chairperson, a safeguarding officer nor a captain for the Scarborough Open League. Without them the club will struggle to exist as the committee needs sufficient positions filled to create a quorum for their meetings.
We do have one new member and, so far, a couple of friendly fixtures next season.
AGM and Signing on Day combined will be on Saturday March 23rd. Details will be in the post in due course.
That’s all. Take care and have a good year
Peter
