This afternoon saw us hold our Ladies’ and Men’s Singles Finals.

The afternoon was ideal for bowling. The hot weather and a green running quickly made sure the participants could concentrate on line and length without having to force their woods up the green.

In the Ladies’ Final Margaret Hill played Denise Everson. Both had won the final once before adding extra interest to a match between possibly the best two lady bowlers in the club. This time Margaret deservedly claimed the honours.

Jim Dawson,an experienced bowler but in his first season at the club, met Peter Lees in the Men’s Final. Jim beat Mick Wharton, the pre competition favourite, on the way. The first eight ends were evenly contested before Peter slowly drew away to record his tenth final victory.

Melvyn Riley and Derek Everson, the markers for the matches, were thanked for their contributions
