30th ANNIVERSARY DAY SUNDAY 14th MAY
Seamer celebrated being 30 years young last Sunday 14th May by holding an all day whistlestop followed by a champagne and cake celebration.
Twenty teams of triples took part in a day blessed with welcome sunshine. After six hours of competitive yet friendly bowling the result was a triple tie.
The winners being
Barbara Howard and Patrick Simpson (Snainton BC)
Bryan Brook and Paul Storer (Filey BC)g
Brenda “Skip” and David “Spud” Mellor (Sledmere BC)
All being undefeated each winning four games.
The day was organised by Seamer Secretary, Denise Everson and results recorded by Margaret Hill and Bernard Dungworth.
Afterwards well over 50 past and present members and well wishers from other clubs in the area celebrated the anniversary with glasses of champagne and cakes baked by Kathy Short.
The club is indebted to the financial support of Seamer Sports Association and the untiring efforts of a number of bowling club members over the years. These efforts have seen a move from an old cabin and outside toilets to a spacious clubhouse with solar panels and a bowling green as good as any in the area. Eight members have played for Yorkshire County teams and many members have had success in local and Yorkshire County competitions. More than fifty touring teams from all parts of the country have visited us in this time.
The club has won the Scarborough Men’s Evening League Knock Out three times and the League twice as well as the Scarborough Open League Knock Out. They have also been the Yorkshire Zone 3 Triples League Champions.
As well as competitive league bowling the club has a strong social side with members taking part in many internal social events. The club’s annual whistlestop, in August, is a popular event attracting entries from all over Yorkshire.
The club is looking forward to another thirty years of successful bowling.
